Gurukul

Gurukul (Sanskrit: गुरुकुल) was the main education system in ancient India with Shishya ('students' or 'disciples') living near or with the guru, in the same house. The Gurukul is the first education system of humanity, and its origin can be traced back to over 15,000 years in India. Modern schools are just the evolution of the Gurukul system.

eYogi Gurukul

The “e” in “eYogi Gurukul” connects the ancient Vedic practices of meditation and Spirituality of Hinduism to the modern world of science and globalization. Therefore an “eYogi” is a practitioner of meditation and Spirituality who connects the ancient science and Spirituality of Sanatana Dharma (Eternal Laws that govern the inner world) to the modern world. eYogis respect other cultures and embrace integration to build peace and harmony in the world.

What are our beliefs?

India's Scientific Heritage.jpg

Sanatana Dharma is the ancient original name for Hinduism. Santana means eternal, and Dharma means law; hence, Sanatana Dharma means the Eternal Laws that govern the inner (Spiritual) world. The followers believe Sanatana Dharma is not only a religion but also a way of life. Santana Dharma is the oldest living religion on this planet and believed to be older than 15,000 years.

In Sanatana Dharma, there are six major Schools of Darshanas (Philosophies) based on Shrutis. These philosophies are about the realization of truth. The Rishis, Munis, and Yogis who had direct, intuitive perception of the truth are the founders of the different philosophical systems in India. It is like there are six different roads which lead to one city. The methods of approaching the goal are different depending on the different temperaments, capacities, and mental caliber of people. However, they all have one aim, removal of ignorance and its effects of pain and suffering and the attainment of freedom and eternal bliss by the union of the Jiva-Atman (Individual Consciousness) with the Paramatman (Supreme or Universal Consciousness). They are the 6 ways of looking at the truth and believe in the authority of Veda called “Shad Darshana”. These are given below.

The fundamental principles of Sanatana Dharma are the following.

  • The core scriptures of Santana Dharma are Shrutis and Smritis. Shruti scriptures are Vedas and Upanishad. The primary Smriti scriptures are Bhagwat Gita, Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Purana. A follower of Santana Dharma believes in the sayings and teachings of these scriptures.

  • The practice of Yoga and Meditation

  • Law of Karma

  • Samsara and Reincarnation

  • The followers also see following two slokas as a guide

अयं बन्धुरयंनेति गणना लघुचेतसाम्

उदारचरितानां तु वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम्

Ayam bandhurayam neti ganana laghuchetasam,

Udaracaritanam tu vasudhaiva kuṭumbakam.

(Maha Upanishad 6.71)

This one is my relative, that one is not, say the petty-minded people, the wise believe that the entire world is a family.

Indram Mitram Varunam Agni Mahuratho Divyah Sa Sampurna Guru Atman,

Ekam sad vipra bahudha vadanti agnim yamam matariswanam ahuh.

(Rig Veda 1.164.46)

They called him Indra, Mitra, Varuṇa, Agni; and he is heavenly Garuda, who has beautiful wings. The truth is one, but the sages (or learned ones) call it by many names or describe him in many ways; they called him Agni, Yama, Matarisvan.
