Janmashtami by Navya Kumar

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare. Namaste my name is Navya Kumar, I am a student of Eyogi gurukul and today I am going to tell you about Janmashtami, the birth of Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna is also known by these names Arjun, Matsya, Kuram, Varah, Vaman, Janardhan, Gobind, Pundrikaksh, Madhav, Madhusudan, Padmanabhan, Sahasraksha, Vanmali, Halayudh, Govardhan, Rishikesh, Baikunth, Purushotam, Vishvaroop, Vasudev, Ram, Narayan, Hari, Damodar, Shridhar, Vedang, Garuddhwaj, Anant and Krishna Gopal. Lord Krishna was the eight avatar of Lord Vishnu. So, it started when Lord Brahma, Lord Shiva and all other demi gods went to Baikunth the abode of lord Vishnu and told him about how the demons on earth were getting more powerful and they were not letting sages do their tapasya and they were killing good people. So, they all requested Lord Vishnu to help them. Then Lord Vishnu said I will take an avatar as a human as Devaki and Vasudev’s son. Devaki was the sister of Kansa. Kansa was an evil demon but his father Ugrasen was a noble man. Kansa’s sister Devaki got married to Vasudev. Then as an Indian tradition the brother drops the sister to husbands’ home so Kansa was driving the chariot to drop her sister a voice erupted from the sky it said Kansa your sister’s chariot which you drive so lovingly her eighth child will kill you. Then kansa said I will kill Devaki right now. But Vasudev stopped him and said don’t kill her I will give you all of her children if you don’t kill her. Ok said Kansa then he turned around the chariot and started driving the chariot back towards Mathura (Devaki’s maternal home). Then he imprisoned his father king Ugrasen and made himself the king. Then he also put Devaki and Vasudev in prison. One by one he killed all of Devaki’s children. Then Krishna was born on the eighth day of the dark fortnight in the month of Bhadon in Mathura around 5000 years ago. We celebrate Krishna’s birthday as Janmashtami all over the world. In Mathura and Vrindavan the preparations for the Janmashtami festival start a few weeks in advance because Lord Krishna spent his early years of life in those places. All the temples in the world are decorated and delicious bhog is offered to the deity. Devotees of Lord Krishna fast on his birth anniversary. Children dress up as Radha and Krishna and visit temple.
